Tea has been used in Eastern countries for thousands of years for the many medical benefits it is believed to produce. Eastern countries believe teas can promote health, wisdom, and happiness. Currently, Western countries have begun looking into proof that tea can actually promote health. It is not being studied for the Eastern beliefs that it promotes wisdom and happiness. One of the many teas that has begun to be studied is Hibiscus tea. The medical benefits of Hibiscus tea are now believed to be true.
Believed Benefits
It is believed, drinking certain teas may produce a wide randge of health benefits. One of the benefits tea is believed to produce is reducing the risk of certain cancers. Heart disease and diabetes may also benefit from drinking certain teas. Teas may encourage weight loss as well. Cholesterol levels may naturally be lowed be drinking certain teas. Mental alertness may improve with regular tea consumption.
Although some studies have shown promising results of the believed medical benefits of teas, more studies still need to be conducted to prove them. Even though the benefits have not completely been proven, most health professionals agree, drinking tea does not produce many harmful risks. It is recommend that fresh brewed teas are consumed instead of bottled teas, because bottled teas contain more calories as well as sweeteners.
Herbal Teas
Hibiscus tea is considered to be an herbal tea. Herbal teas have different compositions and benefits that other teas, such as green tea and oolong tea. Herbal teas have lower levels of antioxidants than other types of teas. Very little research has been conducted on the heath benefits of herbal teas. Many people believe herbal teas may boost the immune system and aid in weight loss. Many people claim herbal teas can promote a restful sleep.
Hibiscus Tea
One medical benefit of Hibiscus tea was produced using a small study. People that had slightly elevated blood pressure levels were given three cups of hibiscus tea a day. The Hibiscus tea was shown to be beneficial in lowering the slightly raised blood pressure.
Risks of Tea
Although most tea is safe to drink, the FDA does not recommend teas that claim to be “dieter’s teas”. These teas included aloe, buckthorn, and Senna. These teas produce laxative like effects.
The FDA does not recommend teas that claim to eliminate pain or treat cancer as well. These teas may actually harm the body, producing liver and kidney damage. They may lead to bowel problems as well.
