Child drowning deaths and near drownings occur far too often. Luckily, the Child Guard system can decrease these occurrences.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated in 2007 that there were 3,443 unintentional drowning related deaths. Of these deaths, a large portion of them were children under the age of 14. The CDC estimates that for every child drowning there are at least another four near drowning incidents involving young children.

Lack of Supervision Puts Kids at Risk of Drowning

Children ranging in age from one to four years old have an increased risk of suffering a drowning death or near drowning experience. In Arizona, child drowning deaths are the number one cause of unintentional death among children one to four years of age. The children who do survive a near drowning are often left with permanent damage, such as brain and neurological damage.

The main culprit for these drowning incidents are due to the lack of proper supervision and lack of barriers or fences surrounding pools. In a split second a child can slip from proper supervision and fall into a pool. Even with proper barriers in place, children can find their way to a pool, either by climbing over the barrier or through an open gate.

Many people are unaware there are numerous products available to alert parents when a child has entered a pool. There are also numerous safety products that can be purchased to keep children away from pool areas. Using pool alarm systems and other safety products reduce the risk of a small child entering a pool out of curiosity and simply by accident.

Child Guard Pool Alarm System

What many parents are unaware of is that there is a simple and inexpensive child pool alarm system that can quickly alert parents once a child has entered a pool. With the use of this device, the reduction of child drowning deaths and near drownings are highly probable.

The Child Guard system consists of an adjustable fish-shaped wristband worn on the arm of young children. The wristband works in combination with a portable base station. Once the wristband has touched water, the base station instantly emits a 100 decibel alarm with flashing lights. The base station and wristband have a 200 feet maximum allowance, and because the base station is portable it can be used in a variety of situations. The system has a battery life of at least three years, and the base station is capable of operating multiple wristbands allowing safety for multiple children.
